As an experienced PUA, you should look for opportunities and be more strategic when out in the bar.
So someone may tell you obey the 3-second rule. Yes that is true, but you may enter at a bad time and compromise your value due to interrupts.
I find it important to glance at the room and just get a feel for what to expect if entering a specific set.
Be more strategic about it. Notice the body language of the people in the set and it will tell you what's going on. Use your peripheral vision and you can tell from a distance what is happening in the set without even knowing what they are talking about.
